Thursday Thirteen #1

June 4, 2008 by allisonbarton

In what will probably be a pathetic attempt at wrangling together my 100 things, I’ve decided to partake in the Thursday Thirteen! So, for the next eight weeks (likely more as I’m sure I’ll “forget” at least once) I’m going to put together 13 things about me in my Thursday Thirteen. At the end of the eight weeks (or longer) I’ll have 104, of which I’ll delete four awful ones, which should be easy enough, and have 100 for my “about me!” Or maybe it will just be 104 things.

Here goes!

Allison’s Thursday Thirteen: Part 1

1. I love buffalo chicken. Wings, sandwiches, salads, pizzas, you name it! If it’s buffalo chicken I’m all over it.
2. I don’t drink soda. I gave it up as a New Years Resolution in ninth grade and to this day it remains the one resolution I have stuck to. (One caveat: I’ll drink diet soda with vodka.)
3. I have been with Zach for over five years. Our relationship has lasted longer than most of the couples I know, and is longer than some of the marriages.
4. I still smoke cigarettes on occasion. It’s a nasty habit, I know. Never around my son.
5. I lived in Tallahassee, Florida, for 6 months in 2001. Otherwise, I’ve spent all of my time living in Pittsburgh, or in Massachusetts for college.
6. I hate throw up. It makes me nauseous, anxious, and really unhappy. I can smell it for hours after it’s gone. I generally have to shower if Alex throws up even partly on me. If I never had to deal with throw up again, I wouldn’t.
7. I don’t get scared during scary movies. Ever. They just don’t scare me.
8. I make unbelievably good chocolate chip cookies. They are sweet, perfectly undercooked, gooey madness.
9. I don’t know what I want to be when I “grow up.” I think I want to be a nurse, but I don’t really know. I don’t think I can know until I do it.
10. I was raised an only child. I always wanted a sibling, but I’m glad I was an only child now.
11. I don’t make friends easily. While I can get along with almost anyone, I don’t make real friends quickly. It takes a long time for me to get close to someone.
12. I was a dancer when I was growing up. Not a ballerina, but I was very into dancing and was on a dance team, performed all the time and wanted to be a professional tap dancer.
13. I am addicted to Burt’s Bees Beeswax Lip Balm. It is amazing.

…seriously, I have to come up with 100? This was hard enough! I’m a really, really, boring person.

Welcome to the Thursday Thirteen. I am on the opposite end of the spectrum sibling-wise… I am the youngest of 8! My lip balm of choice is Vaseline Lip Therapy. It is one of the things that I never leave home without.

Thanks for sharing a bit of yourself. 13 down and 91 to go.

I love Burt Bees as well. Have you tried their foot cream? I am no girly but it’s lovely (referred to it originally by Backpacker magazine). Can I get in line for a chocolate chip cookie?

    Happy TT

I wish I could do No. 7. I am a chicken! My soda goes everywhere when I get nervous during a movie–not good!

  7. on June 4, 2008 at 8:48 pm Buck Naked Politics

Welcome to TT! What a great list. # 7 is interesting: I’m the opposite. I don’t know why, because I know they’re just movies.

I like that list, but I can’t give up the Diet Sunkist–it is so thirt quenching to me.

In regard to number nine. If you haven’t grown up by the time you turn fifty, you don’t have to. LOL
    Happy T13!

That is a great list of yourself. I’m with you with #4. I do smoke too. Bad habit! I love #1 too. We have them here at Don Henrico’s.
    Thanks for dropping by.

    Welcome to TT, Allison.
    Nice get-to-know-you list.
    I’m thinking that #6 and #9 are contradictory ;)

How do we know when we are ‘grown up?

  17. on June 5, 2008 at 2:34 am Chelle Y.

I gave up soda this past New Year, and was doing fine for four months. Then, my brother-in-law got me to take “one sip,” and after that, it was all down hill from there.

I recently stopped again, and have been off for almost two weeks. I know that it not four months, but it’s a start. Haha!

Thanks for stopping by my TT.

Nice to meet you! This is a fun way to get to your 100 things about you list! I didn’t even try when I reached my 100th post. It seemed to overwhelming.

I have given up soda 2 times, once in 7th grade. It lasted for almost 7 years. Then I gave it up again last August. I have recently started drinking it now and then, but it just doesn’t have the same yummy ‘ness’. Water is better :)

I am totally with you on the throw-up thing. And my kids are now 12 and 14. I just blogged about it last week:

I think everyone hates throw up, espcially when we have to clean it up! YUCK!

Very nice list, I like it. BOUNCE on over to my 13.

Hello, fellow Pittsburgher! I’m still proud of my Pens; how about you?

And if you live in Pittsburgh but are moving to Mountain View, CA, does that mean the word GOOGLE is involved?

Welcome to Thursday Thirteen. Hope you outlast the eight weeks; it’s a great community to be part of.

Good first time out! Happy T-13

  23. on June 5, 2008 at 10:01 am Kara

Congrats on five year - that’s a long time! I have been with my husband for two and a half, and sometimes it’s a struggle. :)

As far as knowing what you want to be when you grow up, I am 22 and I have NO idea. It’s pretty scary to think that I still don’t know what I want with life.

  24. on June 5, 2008 at 10:16 am egratner

    I love Burt’s Bees too!

  25. on June 5, 2008 at 11:10 am aliceaudrey

I wrote a romance novel with a hero named Zack. Probably nothing like your Zack, though.

BTW, as you go visiting be sure to put the address of your blog in with the signature so those of us you have visited can find you. It was only luck that lead me to you.

  26. on June 5, 2008 at 12:05 pm Tempest Knight

I’m an only child too, and I love chocolate chip cookies. I don’t know how to make them though. Then again, I’m allergic to the kitchen. Hahaha! Happy TT! :D

  27. on June 5, 2008 at 12:21 pm Starrlight

First off, welcome! Second off, thanks for the lovely comment! And finally, wow are we a lot alike if that list is anything to go by!

  28. on June 5, 2008 at 2:24 pm The Gal Herself

I am addicted to lip balm, too! I prefer cherry flavored and in the tube. I’m so hooked I check my pocket for my keys and my lip balm before I go out the door. Welcome to the TT, and thanks for visiting mine.

  29. on June 5, 2008 at 2:27 pm Tink

Welcome to the TT family! I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I do. Btw, I voted for Alex. :-)
Thanks for visiting my goddess sign TT.

  30. on June 5, 2008 at 4:06 pm misty

Glad you’ve decided to do TT. It’s fun, and it’s great for those lazy days when I just have nothing else to blog about. Great list. I wish I could make yummy cookies. Mine always burn on the bottom. Always!
I am totally with you on the throw up, scary movies, and cigarettes.
And I stopped drinking soda as well, a few years ago, but I am ashamed to say that I recently had a relapse. Don’t tell anyone. lol. Thanks for stopping by my blog. Have a great weekend.

  31. on June 5, 2008 at 4:41 pm Robin

Mmmm… Gooey chocolate chip cookies. Must. Have. Some. Now.

Oh, sorry, I got carried away. Where were we? Oh yeah, scary movies. Not me - I’m terrified. I can’t even handle those silly haunted houses where you ride through in a tram.

    Welcome to TT.

  32. on June 5, 2008 at 7:50 pm Nancy

Undercooked chocolate chip cookies are the best!

  33. on June 6, 2008 at 2:23 pm Beth

Oh, I wish I had #7 going for me. Fun list!

  34. on June 7, 2008 at 12:33 am Stephanie

I’m not a big fan of soda either. Every once in awhile, I love a nice cold root beer in a bottle, but - other than that - I don’t really like the taste of soda.
