Thursday Thirteen #5

July 2, 2008 by allisonbarton

This is part 5 in my Thursday Thirteen series, getting me up to 104 things about me!

Photobucket

Allison’s Thursday Thirteen: Part 5

1. I was in the 5th percentile for height until I was in 5th grade. I hit a growth spurt at that time, and since then have been just above average. I’m 5′5″ now.
2. I love to sleep. If I could, I would sleep for 12 hours a night and be thrilled.
3. I took four years of French. I couldn’t hold a conversation in french if my life depended on it!
4. I have gone on many long drives. My Mother and I always drove places. We drove from Pennsylvania to Wisconsin, PA to Florida, PA to MA, PA to ME, PA to AR…basically, I have spent an enormous amount of time in the car!
5. I type at around 100 words per minute It varies a bit. I just took two typing tests online and got 98 and 112 wpm. (I am always about 95% accurate too.)
6. I have freakish hair. It grows insanely fast. I can chop it all off and within a year it will be back down to my shoulders.
7. I love taking baths. I don’t take them to get clean, but to relax. Generally, I shower and then take a bath to relax. It’s wasteful, so it doesn’t happen very often.
8. I hate buying people presents from a list. I feel like it doesn’t show how much I care when I just choose a gift from a wish-list (like on Amazon.com), so I try to rely on thinking of something on my own.
9. I love to shop. Fortunately, I’m also really cheap. The two even each other out pretty well.
10. I have bad knees. They got bad during that growth spurt and have never been great since then. While I rarely feel them now, I still can’t run very much without them throbbing.
11. I love Pixar. They make the most unbelievable movies.
12. I enjoy reading Sci-Fi. My most recent read was “Red Planet” and I loved it.
13. I wish I had a talent. Most people are amazing at something and I haven’t yet found my something. Hopefully I will.

I love to sleep too! :)

  2. on July 2, 2008 at 7:22 pm Michelle

Gosh, I love to sleep too. I don’t seem to get as much as I’d like since the little one was born. Great job with keeping up the 101 things about me series. I enjoy reading your blog so I added you to my blog roll. I’ll be back to visit. Happy TT!

Did you get to see Wall-E yet?

    I had a growth spurt that didn’t end until I was 19 years old - 5′10″ here - I think of 5′5″ as “tiny” not average! ;) Um… hate shopping…. love Pixar!

    Happy TT!

  5. on July 2, 2008 at 8:50 pm Carol

You have a talent. Your challenge is to find it. I’m rooting for you!

    Good 13!

  6. on July 2, 2008 at 8:52 pm Susan Helene Gottfried

Hey. My son was born on August 28, too. But not in 2007, thankfully. He’d be an awfully big prodigy if he were…

I have knee trouble, too. I bike instead of walking or running whenever I can ’cause it’s one of the few things I can do without pain.

  7. on July 2, 2008 at 9:44 pm Sarah @ pussreboots

I can also type around 100 wpm. It comes in handy with the web design. Happy TT.

  8. on July 2, 2008 at 10:12 pm Tammy

I love to sleep too. I just never seem to get enough. Happy TT

  9. on July 2, 2008 at 10:15 pm Bellezza

Yeah, it’s hard to get enough sleep. Lucky for you on the hair-grows-fast. I bet you’ve not cried at a horrible haircut like I have!

  10. on July 2, 2008 at 10:28 pm Lori

I could never think of that many things about me…I have bad knees too. It sucks but only started about 5 years ago. Happy TT:)

  11. on July 2, 2008 at 10:34 pm Di

My family is big on lists for presents. My husband does not understand this.

  12. on July 2, 2008 at 11:15 pm SandyCarlson

I don’t like shopping from a list, either. Often, I lie in the bath and wonder about those lists.

Nice to learn more about you!

  13. on July 2, 2008 at 11:52 pm poppingbubbles

Aaahh, sleep is wonderful! Can we trade hair for a year or two? Mine grows fast, but nothing like yours!

  14. on July 3, 2008 at 12:21 am Pamela Kramer

Mmmmm sleeeeep! Love pixar too. Have you seen Wall - E yet? Happy TT and thanks for stopping by.

  15. on July 3, 2008 at 12:59 am Kim

I took three years of Spanish, and all I can do is find you a bathroom and get you a beer. Of course, on vacation last year, that came in handy. :)

100 words per minute! Wow! I’m impressed!

I like shopping off of wish lists. It makes me feel good to know that I am buying something that is really wanted… :)

  18. on July 3, 2008 at 6:36 am tips and tricks

It seems we have a lot in common…I love to sleep, take a bath (longer), shop ( poor wallet!), etc…and I definitely wish I had much talent…and then no please don’t mention the hair…Mine is arrrgh!

BTW, I also love Burt’s Bees products and it’s such a shame there’s few boutiques here with their products.

And yes i voted for your son - not sure if what I did was right though..lol…it’s the rating system right?

Ditto to #9!! Great list this week!

I just don’t understand how you can type 100 words/minute with impressive accuracy and still not have a talent. I’m a writer and I consider your typing a talent in and of itself. To do it that fast, and that WELL, must require terrific coordination or maybe concentration. Anyway, I think that’s great.

Thanks for your thoughtful comments on my TT

  21. on July 3, 2008 at 10:12 am Stace

Baths are my weakness…especially in the winter when its really cold..i love taking a hot hot hot bath to warm up. Thanks so much for sharing, I enjoy learning things like this about people. :-D

  22. on July 3, 2008 at 10:39 am Tink

Nice to get to know you a bit better every TT!
Thanks for visiting my TT about Belgium.

  23. on July 3, 2008 at 11:17 am Dawn's Daily Life

I can relate to you on #13. I want talent too!!! I must have some, but I just can’t figure out what it is exactly. :-) Have a great day!

  24. on July 3, 2008 at 11:23 am Kitchen Gadget Girl

wow, I am impressed that you could come up with a list of 104 things about yourself. Maybe that is your talent. Seriously, I am not sure I could come up with 13 - I struggled with my TT list today!

    Thanks for sharing :-)

  25. on July 3, 2008 at 11:28 am Melissa from Pittsburgh

LOVE to SHOP; LOVE to drive … I seriously love spending hours in a car (when there is a purpose and a destination; but I HATE HATE HATE traffic, guess that doesn’t make much sense, but there doesn’t have to be logic in my brain for it to serve me well).

YOU DO HAVE A TALENT - you are a wonderful person and an awesome mother! Most people dismiss those wonderful talents too easily - It’s just not easy being both — it really isn’t. So give yourself a big hug, because some talents aren’t worth much in this world but being a great person and amazing mother is priceless.

Now I’m going to depress you … and I’m very sorry for that; but maybe by reading this you will realize just how very TALENTED you are …

    That’s some pretty fast typing!

I’m turning 39 and I’m still waiting for that growth spurt - I stalled out at 5′3″ LOL.

  27. on July 3, 2008 at 1:25 pm ohmommy

You will. It took me 30 years to figure out that I really like photography.

BTW. I love love love baths.

  28. on July 3, 2008 at 2:15 pm she

allison, sleep is my middle name!!

    check out my tt

  29. on July 3, 2008 at 2:57 pm MamaGeek

I like your style and SO LOVE Pixar too!

  30. on July 3, 2008 at 3:44 pm Chris

Fun list, I love to sleep as well and even with 4 years of french couldn’t ask for the bathroom with any confidence. Happy TT

  31. on July 3, 2008 at 5:09 pm Lilibeth

Well, having a talent doesn’t necessarily mean that you are the “best in the world” at something, just that you are good at it or even that you like it extraordinarily well. I can’t play the piano–or any instrument–with any sort of ability, but I have a great talent for enjoying piano music. Of course I realize that this isn’t an impressive “talent” but, since I have a son who plays the piano all the time, it’s a good thing I have a talent for listening and actually enjoying it.

  32. on July 3, 2008 at 7:23 pm Melanie

I like buying people gifts from a list. I know I’m not wasting my money on something they might not like. But, I can see your point too!

  33. on July 3, 2008 at 10:15 pm Anglophile Football Fanatic

I would live in bubbles baths if I could also have books, wine and chocolates available at all times.

  34. on July 3, 2008 at 10:47 pm aliceaudrey

I used to sleep 12 hours often, but even though the kids are older I’m only getting around 5 these days.

    Pixar rules!

  35. on July 4, 2008 at 8:14 am Lisa

All I have to say is..Pixar ROCKS!

  36. on July 6, 2008 at 2:54 am Julie

Great list……not much beats a good bath for a relaxing time before bed!
