Alex is having surgery.
At his fifteen month check-up, the Doctor asked us if we had noticed this.
He has a hernia. It’s an inguinal hernia and will be fixed on Tuesday. The surgery is a very routine procedure, and really is not a big deal. But my heart still skips a beat whenever I think about my little Alex being knocked out and cut open.
It’s just horrifying and sad. How do you explain to a 16 month old that they are going to be in pain for a few days because of an incision that is necessary to make them healthy from something that never bothered them in the first place?
Ugh. Just. Ugh.

Oh this is horrible! I’m so sorry you are going through this. I’ll be thinking well wishes for cute little Alex. Good luck.

*hugs*
Fingers crossed for a super-quick surgery and an even quicker recovery period.

Yikes! – poor guy. Poor You! I’m sure he’ll recover quickly. Kids seem to bounce back quick.
A few years ago I had a friend whose three year old son had to have some sort of corrective surgery on his genitals (I can’t remember what for). I think it was the next day he was running around asking everyone if they wanted to see his “owie”.

I think it’s going to affect you more than him. And, when did he get so gosh darn big??

No worries! I had that surgery myself back in the 70′s and lived to tell about it.
Rest easy, and it will be over before you know it.

Oh you poor mommy.
That is horrible stuff really.
The IV is the worst part … oh sorry, now I’m probably making it worse.
He’ll be fine – but you …. you will be damaged for life!

I’m with AFF: What, did you leave that boy in the sun? He’s looks so big suddenly!
Hang in there, mama. He’ll be fine — you’re the one who is traumatized!
Let us know how it goes.
ciao,
rpm

Oh man, that sucks! But you know he’ll get through it… and in a few years, this will just be an interesting story he can tell his friends!

Oh Allison, I just read this. I hope all went well, I’m sure it will. My daughter is now 20 weeks pregnant and is having a girl. I went to the Dr. with her yesterday and saw the baby’s 4 chamber heart beating and the spine and the profile and of course her girlness. We bought some baby girl things that day also.

Aww poor Alex. I am sure it will be harder on you than on him. I will keep you both in my prayers on Thurs.
